About Youth Mental Health First Aid

Youth Mental Health First Aid Program was developed in 2007. The Program has been proven to be effective in improving mental health literacy, reducing stigma and encouraging people to seek help. The program has spread to every state and territory in Australia and has been accepted internationally in over 27 countries. Mental Health First Aid course provides guidance for adults on how to assist adolescents who are developing a mental health problem or in a mental health crisis. Course participants learn about adolescent development, the signs and symptoms of the common and mental health problems in young people, where and how to get help when a young person is developing a mental illness, what sort of help has been shown by research to be effective, and how to provide first aid in a crisis situation. The course has a combination of videos, interactive activities and group discussions that enhance the learning of the format for providing MHFA (ALGEE). You will be provided with a manual to take home to support the training.
