What the Course Covers

You will learn how to assist someone who is engaging in Non-Suicidal Self-Injury.

The term ‘non-suicidal self-injury’ (NSSI) is a broad term that describes a range of behaviours where a person engages in activities that are potentially harmful to them. They do this for a number of reasons however predominantly to gain relief from the overwhelming emotions they are experiencing. The term is used to refer to injury that is not intended to result in death.

This course gives participants an opportunity to learn how to help someone who is engaging in non-suicidal self-injury. This may mean supporting the person to access professional help. Mental health professionals will help the person understand what is happening for them and find other ways of managing emotions or situation that is leading to this. This is an education course, to learn how to give first aid to others, and is not a therapy or support group however knowing more can a person understand for themselves.

Course Format

Mental Health First Aid for Non-Suicidal Self-Injury course is 4-hour face-to-face course. It is interactive with DVDs and information sharing.
