About On-line Youth Mental Health First Aid Refresher course
This on-line Youth MHFA refresher course is for people who have attended a 2 day course and are already accredited Mental Health First Aiders. The accreditation last 3 years and this 4 hour course provides an update and refreshes the understanding of participants in providing MHFA allowing them to be accredited for a further 3 years. Participants will have an opportunity at the course to discuss your experiences and the important issues affecting the mental health of young people. This course provides an update on new evidence and additions to the YMHFA course. Participants will discuss how to assist adolescents who are developing a mental health problem or in a mental health crisis. It uses videos and interactive activities to reinforce the use of ALGEE in supporting young people and their families. Each participant will receive an updated YMHFA manual.
At this course you will:
- Gain an understanding of the latest research in the mental health field
- Learn the 3 key actions for helping someone feeling suicidal
- Work through complex mental health first aid interactions
- Practice mental health first aid skills.
Re-accredited as a Mental Health First Aider:
Participants who complete this training are eligible to complete an online Accreditation Assessment in order to receive a Mental Health First Aider Certificate of Accreditation valid for 3 years.
About the Presenter
Diane Hickey is an experienced mental health nurse and counsellor with extensive experience in mental health, forensic mental health and primary health care; she worked with Queensland Police Service developing face to face and online mental health training in 2002 and has developed and delivered mental health awareness training. She is a certified Principal Master Trainer of MHFA providing in excess of 200 courses. She has a relaxed and humorous presentation style that will make the experience of attending this workshop both fun and informative.
